Lab Resources — Student

Welcome

New to the Lab? Here's what to know before you come in, plus quick links to hours, tutoring, and policies.

Getting Started Checklist

  • Bring your Cane Card — you wil have to tap it on the card reader in the front desk for you to sign in.
  • Sign the sign-in sheet at the front desk if tap Cane Card reader is not available.
  • No food or drink in the Lab at any time.
  • Keep noise to a minimum; take phone calls outside.
  • Save your work as you go — USB drives are not supported, and everything is wiped when a computer restarts. Email files to yourself or save to a cloud service like OneDrive or Dropbox.
  • Check the Lab Calendar before you come in if you need MB 201 during a busy time — the room may be reserved for a class.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I bring my own laptop?

A: Yes — the Lab's software and support are built around the lab computers, but you're welcome to work on your own device in the space as well.

Q: What if the Lab is closed for a class reservation?

A: Check the Lab Calendar to see reserved time blocks. If you need tutoring during a closure, you may still enter the Lab for scheduled tutoring sessions.

Q: Where do my files go if I forget to save them externally?

A: All lab computers are wiped at the end of the session, so unsaved work might get lost or deleted. Get in the habit of emailing files to yourself or saving to cloud storage before you leave.

Q: Who do I ask for help if I have a tech problem?

A: Ask the Lab Assistant on duty, or contact the IT Lab Manager at Email / 305-284-8592.
